Coating (?) to achieve high friction / wear resistance in transmission

Coating (?) to achieve high friction / wear resistance in transmission

Coating (?) to achieve high friction / wear resistance in transmission

(OP)
Hello forum!
I am working on a transmisson, where we intend to use a cone to synchronize and lock the gears (as opposed to an ordinary synchronizer cone that only synchronizes, there are teeth that geometrically lock the gears).

Wish list:
1. High coefficient of friction even with transmission oil present.
2. High wear resistance (approximately 10000-30000 cycles)
3. Surface pressure roughly 10-20 MPa, 1500-3000 PSi (assuming coefficient of friction = 0.2-0.1)
4. Friction power/enery density "I take what I get but the higher the better". Optimum would be roughly 45kW/sq.inch and 9kJ/sq.inch.

Thanks

RE: Coating (?) to achieve high friction / wear resistance in transmission

I have ran across information where some of DLC's and Silicon Nitride will produce very high friction coatings depending on the processing method. There was also a Chrome Oxide coating we used on textile rolls that had a very high coefficient of friction, when most have a low COF.

Unfortunately I didn't bookmark any other sites than the site listed below.
