Implications of Drill Vibration to the Surrounding Environment

Implications of Drill Vibration to the Surrounding Environment

Implications of Drill Vibration to the Surrounding Environment

(OP)
I would like to locate literature on the settling of earth around a natural gas drill rig (triple) operating on a rock /pit fill pad.

Is it possible that the vibrations from a drill rig in operation could casue settling/compaction of the ground around it?

Any help locating evidence of this event would be great!

Thanks

RE: Implications of Drill Vibration to the Surrounding Environment

i'd say it's possible but i suspect very slim except for in the immediate area. you could always have someone provide vibration monitoring to see how strong the shaking is. i suspect that the acoustics through the air is a much bigger problem to surrounding "whatever" than vibration. i suppose it depends on how far from the drill you're talking about...few feet? sure -- hundred feet? i doubt it. and my guess is based on settlement solely due to the vibration.

what are you drilling and does it happen to involve pumping water out of or in to the ground?

RE: Implications of Drill Vibration to the Surrounding Environment

The fill has to meet the compaction required to hold the weight of the rig. If it is done correctly, settling should not occur.
The rig itslef will not vibrate much, the motor house will. But if you mat the skids correctly it should not be an issue.
