I know many of us check in over at the SW forum, but I thought I'd post this one over here since we get a lot of questions about human models.  Kevin should get credit for the original post.  There is a free download of a human modeling package here: http://www.makehuman.org/blog/index.php?post=s1210243808.  I played around with it a little bit, and it looks like you can import the mesh data with Scan to 3D.  Pretty good for a freebee.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

Cool, thanks for the lead.

RE: Free MakeHuman download

That's pretty cool!

I'll have to download it late Saturday night and play with different poses 3D models.

RE: Free MakeHuman download

Is there a way to bring something like hand geometry/poses into SolidWorks for use with other SolidWorks models?  This doesn't initially look like I can get models to work, but maybe I'm missing something.

Like I said, I was able to get the model into SW with Scan to 3D, but it's really blocky from the course mesh.  If you don't care about that then, I'd be willing to bet you could cut off the hand after imorting, Theo.  Don't tell anyone this, but I'm not the world's greatest surfacing guru so I'm not 100% sure on how to smooth it out.  Not even sure it's possible.  Maybe one of the other surfacing or meshing guys could help Chris out by Saturday night?censored

Thanks for the offer, Dan.  I don't need to put anyone through a lot of hassles right now, but it's interesting stuff.  If Scan to 3D opens this type of file, I'd imagine you might also be able to open loads of file types from 3DS Max and others.  Certainly cool.

Yep, Scan to 3D can open up the 3DS Max files, but, again, the mesh is really course.  When I get a some more time, maybe I'll dig a little more.
