Corner detail with one holdown
Corner detail with one holdown
(OP)
Hi,
Does anyone have a detail (or know where I can find one), for a 2x6 corner (wood frame building)? I have one holdown (e.g. a Simpson HTT16) at the front of the building, and I want to tie the corner together so I can use one holdown for each direction. I've attached a sketch.
Thanks.

This can also be done with a multiple 2X6 stud arrangement, but you have to sequentially nail the studs together - more labor - use the solid stick. If you choose the 4X6, place the 6" side flush to the STHD for a greater placement error allowance for the contractor.
I do not have a detail at my immediate disposal, but I think the description should be adequate for you to create one. Good luck.

Thanks for your response. I see what your saying... I've attached a jpeg of the STHD from the Simpson catalog... so you're recommending that rather than using 3 2x's (as shown in the jpeg) it would be better to use a 4x6.
Here's a little background on the building I'm analyzing - it's garage type structure - the largest uplift loads I have are along the transverse direction (one of the transverse walls has the garage doors). The building wall height is 14'. The uplift load in the longitudinal direction is about 25% of the load in the transverse direction, so my thought was that I could just use one holdown at the corner.
Please let me know if you have any additional comments, suggestions. Thank you very much for your help - I appreciate it.
