The embedment of the H steel pile into pile cap for transfering load can be based on the CSRI handbook or discuss in thread 256-152354 , about 6" and no need the cap plate. But the topis for circular I could not find any where.
Normal practice from my company is the base plate as in column but I would like to have more reference to this topic. Any sugesstion?

I would weld a plate to the top of the pile with a sufficient number or rebar welded to the top of the plate to resist any uplift that the pile might see.

Typically, where required, nelson studs are welded on to the pipe pile for resisting uplift.

Also, it may be common practice in the building indstry for low embedment (6") into the pile cap but not so in bridges and other structures.  In fact, 6" will not meet the requirements of a fixed head pile and so if you made this assumption in your design you may wish to reconsider the 6" embedment.

Hi Monopoly,

I have been involved in a number of bridge constrcution employing an enoumous number of H -Pile and the recommended embedment should be 300mm or more
(Canadian Highway bridge design code clause 6.8.9.1)
Embedment in footing
Where the heads of piles are encased in a concrete footing or pile cap, the heads shall project at least
300 mm into the footing after all material that has been damaged by driving has been removed. For concrete and concrete-filled steel pipe piles connected to pile caps using reinforcing steel, the minimum embedment may be reduced to 100 mm.
As for the end plate it is good practice but not required and can be ommitted from construction.
