Designing Piled Foundations:
Designing Piled Foundations:
(OP)
Goodday,
I will like to get detailed stuff on how professional engrs design their pile structures. I have surf the internet and other hard copy texts; none seems to give me the practical aspect of pile design.
I beleive, from the content of the geotechnical report(after site investigations by a geotechnical engr);and the anticipated Design Load from Structural Design; the design engr can now proceed with his pile design.
That design processes varies depending on the structure, size of project, experience of the design team,cost/economy and other factors that I may not know. I need a practical design approach from the practicing engr perspective.
To this end,can anyone help me out;I am writing my Professional Development Report; which have everything to do with IMPROVED METHODS OF PILE DESIGN. The PD report is my life.
Thank you all.
Best regards

RE: Designing Piled Foundations:
If you can lay your hands on a textbook like' Foundation Design and Construction' by Tomlinson you can get the basic. But since you are working with a contractor, better leave pile design to the consultants.

You 're right. I 'm not a geotechnical engineer but I spent five years studing civil engineering and graduated in 2005.
I hope to specialise in geotechnics and foundation engineering; as I plan towards an MSc in engineering.
Notwithstanding, thanks for constructive comments and professional advice; I value them much. Please, find time to comment on some my threads. I love u, sir.
cheers !

Best place to start maybe is Bowles Foundation Design and Analysis.
Some people simply driving to a firm layer or a minimum blow count based on dynamic formula or wave equation. Some people specify a test pile with either dynamic testing or static testing. Some people use a static analysis, of which there are many different methods. Most use a combination of the three.
