Emergency Generator Pad

Emergency Generator Pad

Emergency Generator Pad

(OP)
I am designing the concrete pad support for an Emergency Generator that weighs 50 Kips, footprint say 10ft x20 ft. I understand that the traditional design of a concrete pad without mechanical damping would require a concrete slab about 2 to 3 times the weight of the generator. If there is mechanical damping isolators provided, say, metal springs, what would the design criteria for the design of the concrete slab/pad be. The generator is located in an enclosed plant building. Actually, two generators are side by side, separated by about 10 ft, in the same room. Thanks.

RE: Emergency Generator Pad

I think it is nothing but a housekeeping pad.  Just design it like a gravity pad footing?

Never, but never question engineer's judgement

RE: Emergency Generator Pad

Take some  literature from generator guy. They have some requirement regarding structure i.e. weight requirement of slab supporting generator, edge distance of slab and cover to rebars. It depends on soil also, you can't afford to place generator on loose fill.

Thanks for your responses. I'll talk to a supplier re: any special concrete pad requirements for this case.
