Compression only spring (or link?)

Compression only spring (or link?)

Compression only spring (or link?)

(OP)
I could not achive to model compression only spring whatever I did. I am assinging compression-only springs to area mesh set  but I am still seeing some tension force upon area face in my trial models. I have V12 plus version. Therefore I am doing linear analysis. When I choose compression only springs, they do not look like a spring (zig-zag)but looks like brackets (I think this is link). Can you help me to describe linear springs which will not take any tension force in linear analysis. So I'll able to get rid of deleting springs which shows tension in joint reaction result display. Best regards.

RE: Compression only spring (or link?)

I've never used SAP2000 but I would have thought you would need to do a non-linear analysis, if you want to use compression only springs.
The springs can still act linearly in a non-linear analysis

RE: Compression only spring (or link?)

Yes...need to run a nonlinear analysis for these link elements for them to act as compression only.
