Bending-Annular Load
Bending-Annular Load
(OP)
Hi all,
I'm trying to solve a bending situation. A square plate is placed b/w two other square plates. The two outside square plates have concentric annular protrusions, with one larger than the other. To simplify: think of a plate with a pipe on the top and a pipe on the bottom. The two pipes have different diameters. The bottom pipe could be thought of as a restraint, whereas the force is input through the top pipe.
Any reference I check for bending ony has beam bending. How do i go about trying to calculate bending stresses/deflections in the square plate?
TIA,
-Nick

If the outside edge of the plate is free, it would probably be a reasonable assumption to treat it as a circular plate and just neglect the excess material. In that case, the circular plate formulas from Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain could be used.
