Oil Useage Worldwide for Power Generation
Oil Useage Worldwide for Power Generation
(OP)
My recent travel to sub tropical climate of Asia made me aware of the tremedous use of air conditioners to control humidity and to provide confortable work environments.
Such useage is also common to Southern States (USA) and I am quiet certain that AC's are also extensively used in other parts of the world of similar equatorial temperatures(such as UAE) and humidity.
It is my contention that theses parts of the world use more oil for power generation for AC's than let's say countries of Northern and Southern latitudes of more moderate temperatures for heating and cooling.
I dont have anyway of verifying my contention, so any comment is greatly appreciated.

There is a distinctive move away from fossil fuel towards "greener" fuel in the developed countries, but China is building one major coal fuelled power station every week and there is no slow down in sight. Many of those developing countries will use fossil fuel because it is available and they don't want to depend on developed countries for oil fuel or other imported source of energy. Dubai, Singapore and the like are using lots of power for air conditioning installations, but very little energy for heating, unlike Scandinavia...

Perhaps when we run out of oil these will all use nuclear, wind, solar or other energy sources. Perhaps global warming will destroy the earth before we develop cost effective wind and solar power.
Life; get on with it or get over it.
