HDPE pipe for refrigerant lines ???

HDPE pipe for refrigerant lines ???

(OP)
Have never heard a question like this.  But, has anybody used HDPE pipe for refrigerant lines ?  If yes, can I have a feedback please.  If no, why not ?

RE: HDPE pipe for refrigerant lines ???

Two basic reasons why the answer is definately no:

(1) Pressure imitations and (2)temperature limitations of the HDPE.

Other possiblities that I can think of; degradation of pastic due to refrigerant oils; high thermal expansion coefficients of HDPE compared to CU; and transition to metallic heat exchangers and compressors.

Try looking in the mechanical code:

IMC 1107.4 Materials for refrigerant pipe and tubing.
Piping materials shall be as set forth in Sections 1107.4.1 through 1107.4.5.
