Electric Overhead Traveling Crane Welded Box Girder Web Distortion
Electric Overhead Traveling Crane Welded Box Girder Web Distortion
(OP)
Hi everyone,
I have a few basic questions as I am currently dealing a web distortion issue found in welded box girder (double overhead running):
1. Is permissible to for butt weld of girder web?
In my case, I was told butt-welding is required because bridge span is quite long.
2. Is AWS D1.1 the applicable standard? If so, what is the allowable tolerance?
3. How would one measure/determine distortion agains allowable tolerances?
OEM is currently saying the distortion is structurally acceptable.
Any input/comment you can offer would be appreciated.

Why do you conclude that the distortion is due to the welding? There may be other reasons.
What/who is OEM?
