Nx6 - how to generate 2d planar surfaces in sketcher?

Nx6 - how to generate 2d planar surfaces in sketcher?

(OP)
OK, I saw this cool video on Nx6 where the guy just starts sketching circles and adding lines then he just pulls the faces to generate a solid.  I've been looking for HOW you can automatically generate these planar surfaces while in sketcher.

HOW can this be done?  I've searched with NO luck!

Thanks!!

RE: Nx6 - how to generate 2d planar surfaces in sketcher?

Do you have a link to the video in question?

Without having seen the video, my guess would be that an extrude operation happens in there somewhere then the user 'pulls' on the face to edit the extrude length.

RE: Nx6 - how to generate 2d planar surfaces in sketcher?

Yes, if you start the Extrude command and you don't have any curves or profiles to select, the system will automatically launch the Sketcher and when you finish sketching your profile and leave the sketcher, it will automatically preview the Extruded feature including allowing you to drag the thickness of the final solid body.

I can't find the bloody link now, but it's 'Demonstration 1 - 1024x576' from Siemens site itself -- I tried the 'extrude -> sketcher' route and that's not it.  I have NEVER seen the technique in the video before, but I really like it!!!!

That particular 'demo' was done using Solid Edge, not NX.

John,

Thanks sincerely for the response!  So there's really no way to do this 'sketchup' type modeling directly in sketcher - you have to go the sketch -> extrude route, eh?  That's too bad actually...

RE: Nx6 - how to generate 2d planar surfaces in sketcher?

Start the sketch from the extrude, start , end values point to zero ... then you get what you want. also use the enhanced area/ region boundary options in the selection toolbar in NX6 should work as you expect.
