Boiler Steel Structure and Non Pressure Parts

Boiler Steel Structure and Non Pressure Parts

(OP)
Hello,

I am new in Boiler steel structure and non pressure parts design, i don't have any idea yet how to design these boiler parts. Please please give me tips, idea's, reference books, manuals (if possible) etc.. Many thanks..

RE: Boiler Steel Structure and Non Pressure Parts

This is something you need to learn at college or from your supervisor, not off internet forums.

RE: Boiler Steel Structure and Non Pressure Parts

If you will only design the steel structure, you should follow other codes such as AISC, but, you need to know the loads, restrictions, thermal growth, and some impact load due to vibration, water hammer, rotary equipment, etc. Then you need to have experience in boiler structure design.

About non-pressure parts, you need to be more specific, there are non-pressure parts having nothing to do with pressure-parts and need to be designed according to codes different than ASME B&PV, but, some non pressure parts are attached to pressure-parts to support, align, protect, etc. Those parts have to be designed according their specific code, but you also need to comply with some ASME B&PV articles.

wayuu1981,

Thanks wayuu1981.
i worked as a detailer of non pressure parts of boiler (buckstays, framing, etc..) on my first job. Now on my 2nd job
the company is new and i need to study also on my own we don't have any senior angineers yet.

RE: Boiler Steel Structure and Non Pressure Parts

Bobcock/Wilcox and Combustion Engineering have published boiler books that may be of value to you.  These companies used to make them available to college students yesteryears.  Search booksellers such as Abebooks.com on the internet for such books.  Don't limit yourself to these two boiler makers.

RE: Boiler Steel Structure and Non Pressure Parts

First, you should look at ASME BPV code (Section VIII) for the boiler design, for both pressure and non-pressure parts, including the structural supports. For the supports, it may refer to UBC code for the wind and earthquake loads design.
You may want to check ASME.org for the references. Also, you could talk to experienced pressure vessel fabricator for examples.
