ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

(OP)
I've been getting this message more often lately and I cannot find a solution to this problem.  I'm working on NX5 and making changes to a solid model that has a 2D drawing associated with it.  When I try to switch to the 2d drawing I get this message:
"Error recovery completed for the following error: No target solid defined".

At that point I cannot switch over to drafting and all I have is the solid model on my screen.  I was able to save my work at that point and if I close the solid model window I was able to switch to drafting mode and I had to open up the model within drafting to display the drawing properly.

Now here is the kicker... I decide to save my work, close NX all together and reboot my computer.  After all that us done I start the NX program again and try to open the same solid model file but when I try to select the Part Navigator I get the same error message as before .  At this point I cannot work on the solid model.  I try to open the solid from the 2D drawing but I get the same error message when I try the Part Navigator again.

How can I get past this error and work on my solid model?

It seems like there must be a feature within the solid model that is causing this error but I cannot get to the solid model Part Navigator to delete or fix this feature.  So far I cannot find a solution within NX and I'm afraid I may have to recreate my solid model all over again.  Is there a solution or am I stuck?

RE: ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

It sounds like a Boolean error of some kind.  How large is the part file (just the master model, not the drawing file)?

Thanks John for responding.

The file is 3.5Mb.  The model is somewhat made from basic features.  The only feature that the model has that I would consider beyond basic is emboss letters on a cylindrical surface.  In fact the part is like a plastic Pipe Tee Fitting.

The thing of it is I have already been working on this model for some time now.  Making changes and saving the file several times for several days.  The last thing I can remember was I was modifying a pocket, or a slot, feature that was extruded from a sketch and subtracted from the main part.  This slot had Edge Blend rounds on the bottom but when I changed the size of the slot the rounds failed but my intention was to delete the rounds and leave a square bottom.  When I deleted the rounds is when I first saw the error message.  Now I cannot open up the model.

All I'm hoping is a way to get into that model and fix the problem.

Thanks.

RE: ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

I have seen this error on two different parts at my company recently.  In the 2nd case, the part won't open in NX 5 but it does open in NX 6.   Please review the details of PR 5953530 at support.ugs.com and submit an IR referencing this PR if it applys.  Hopefully we can get to the root cause of this.

RE: ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

Could you upload the part file to here (zip it first so that it will be smaller and will then upload/download faster)?

RE: ERROR MESSAGE: No target solid defined?

OK, I was able to open the file in NX 5.0.6.3 but it would not update.  In NX 6.0.2.3 it would update, but only after running the 'Clean-up' utility (the utility would not run in NX 5),  however then several feature failed to update because of some feature was delete which was being referenced by a sketch.

Anyway, my advice is to contact GTAC and send them the file.  There are tools available to development which can perhaps 'fix' the feature(s) which are causing these issues.  If not they may be able to at least delete the bad data and perhaps give you back a part file that you start at that point and recreate the features after the point at which they were able to recover a valid file.

I'm sorry, but that about all that I can recommend at this moment.

Thanks John for taking the time to analyze my problem.  I will get with GTAC and see if they can at least get me into my file so I can work on it.

I want to thank BOPdesigner for your advise.  I will  contact support.ugs.com and let them know about this problem as well.

Once again, thanks for your help.
