Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

(OP)
I can't find the way to turn OFF highlight when i mouse over parts in ass'y. Anyone ?
Should be easy to do at first.
Thank you very much.

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

Hi,

you find it under Tools --> Options --> View
 - disable 'Use Shading on Constructions'

it will then only show the part as highlighted wireframe.
Another option is: Tools -> Options -> Assembly
one of the 'fast locate  .. ' options

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

/Edit

oops! it's assembly so deactivate 'Use shading on faces and Features'
(the Application Display must not be set to Automatic, otherwise
the option greyed out)
In V100 (ST) one has to disable 'Shading on selection'

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

From a performance point of view, in very large assemblies turning off the face highlighting will speed up part selection considerably.

Thank you very much for the hints but i'm still having highlight. It is much better than shading.
I want to turn off the highlighting smile. Thanks.
Option is missing ?

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

You can't turn off the highlighting when you mouse-over a part or feature - it's one of the principles of Solid Edge, and is required for QuickPick. Unlike some other systems you dont have to click then keep hitting another button to cycle throuh the part or element selection.
You can however change the way things are highlighted by the methods described above.

LOL beachcomber, we all know you're talking about Autocad.

By the way, you still have to click to select, but elements highlight when the pointer hovers over them now. I believe it started with ACAD 2007.

this is the way SE works at least since V12 ...

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

Well you gotta keep some features for future releases, when you ship a new version every year for no good reason... winky smile

Most Parametric modelers add useful features to new releases, but honestly, since relase 2004, what's been added in Acad is sometimes nice, but not essential.

What I can't understand is why they don't add some useful features to the 3d solids tools like hole, instead of having users contruct an intersecting cylinder then make a substract. Oh wait, I guess that would not help Inventor sales, then...

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

Actually Gemnoc, I wasn't talking about AutoCad specifically as I've never used it for drawing, so I didn't really know that's what you did.
I've used SE since V3 (and seen demo's before that !) and its always been the same for highlighting and selection.
In the early days, when it was owned by Intergraph it was called PickQuick, but when UGS took over they changed the name round to QuickPick. I think it was because Intergraph retained the original function name as it was used in their Imagineer 2D drawing package - does anyone remember that one!!
It was basically Draft from Solid Edge.

RE: Turning OFF annoying mouse over parts highlight ?

I've had a thought on this question and it IS possible because I've done it in the past, but I wouldn't recommend doing it other than as a temporary thing.
Select the part(s) or assemblies you want to make non-selectable then RMB and 'Occurrence Properties'
There should be a column headed 'Selectable'.
Set this to NO for each part and then OK.
Now they will not highlight when you mose over them, but they will highlight from assembly pathfinder.
