Fire Flow Calculations

Fire Flow Calculations

Fire Flow Calculations

(OP)
Would you all give me suggestions how to size the fire pumps for the below criteria

Given:

1. Draw water from canal
2. Pump station to be located 200 feet from the most hydrant
3. 3 buildings (total sqft 35,000)
4. Light hazard
5. The civil engineer layout the route with 6" DIP
6. all 3 buildings will be automatic sprinklers
7. 1000 GPM at 20 psi at hydrant (from FM)

Thank you

RE: Fire Flow Calculations

Be careful, the thread title suggests you are looking for a "fire flow" but most of your questions appear to address sprinkler demand. Fire flows and sprinkler demand are apples and oranges.

While adequacy of water supply to sprinklers can be addressed by an experienced sprinkler technician but "fire flows", not to be confused with sprinkler demand, need to be addressed by a professional engineer familiar with the project and subject.

I am addressing required water supplies for sprinklers only.

Appears you are looking for a 750 gpm vertical turbine pump drawing water from the canal. I would look at 750 gpm @ 100 psi which should supply 1,000 gpm @ somewhere around 85 psi satisfying FM's 1,000 gpm for hydrant.

Review 6" DIP.  Not sure if it is still standard practice but in years past FM required 6" for any sprinkler feed and 8" on any two systems.  Two systems being a hydrant and sprinkler system, two hydrants or two systems.
