Quickpick is CrAP...!?
Quickpick is CrAP...!?
(OP)
Hey guys, I've been using Solid Edge for a little while now and things have been smooth partly because of the help I've gotten here. I do have a problem that I can't seem to get around though. As an example while sketching and lets just say I'm drawing a line from the end point of another line, I will get the little symbol that says I'm right on top of it but low and behold they end up not connected. What give with that? I've had it happen so many times. It's fustrating as hell. Am I missing something here or is the quick pick really that flimsy?

KENAT,
Have you reminded yourself of FAQ731-376: Eng-Tips.com Forum Policies recently, or taken a look at http://eng-tips.com/market.cfm?
RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
when doing a sketch (not a profile) make sure the option
Tools --> Maintain Relationships is activated.

Secondly, go to intellisketch and may be good to just turn everything on. Click on the cursor tab and enter 12 in both locate and intent.
Now try sketching and see if it is any easier. I've never had a problem with this.
Quickpick is not available in sketch environment - I guess you mean intellisketch.

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
Are you having problems with the endpoints not connecting in a draft or in a solid model sketch/profile environment?

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
In the part environment, Maintain Relationships should be on by default.
[...]
additional info: in part or SM while creating a profile
it should be on and you can't disable it. Doing a sketch,
however you *can* disable that function. Correct: in draft
it's OFF by default -- reason unknown.

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
When you've been using Autocad for years and are used to cycle through snaps with the TAB key, Intellisketch sure feels cumbersome sometimes.
RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
I've never used keyboard shortcuts for locating end-points etc. and I've always found Intellisketch works fine.

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
I always have Maintain Relationships activated as well as relationship handles. The problem I have usually occurs with revolved parts. Lets say I make a donut and then slice it into a piece of pie at some even degree. Then later on I need to patter that peice of pie about the centerline of something. All goes fine at least so it appears. Later I will notice something out of whack and upon further inspection I find that my pattern is not central although when placing the patter I picked the mid point of my planes or an end of a line that goes to the center of the circle. (hope that made sense).
Gemnoc made a good point about being an AutoCAD user. Intellisketch is beyond cumbersome when you're an AutoCAD user.
Beachcomber... What is the process you're suggesting? I first disable intellisketch and then I can hold down alt while selecting end points, centers, mids, etc?
Thanks for all the feedback everyone!
RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
Sometimes Intellisketch can get in the way - usually when you want to roughly sketch a line or arc and you have lots of features in that area, and it just keeps locking on to all sorts of keypoints, tangents, etc.
In cases like this just hold down th ALT key and it won't lock onto anything. Release the ALT key and Intellisketch will be active again.
No I don't think the keyboard shortcuts for mid point etc exist in V19.
As I've never used AutoCad other than getting a plot (now you're talking cumbersome !!!) I can't comment on the comparison.
Youre problem with Intellisketch sounds like a 'Code24' error.

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
You're right about plotting with Autocad, beachcomber, even though they've kept messing with the printing process over the years, it is still cr*p IMHO. The publish thing is slow and doesn't work well when I want to print to PDF in one document. Never had a problem with SE, plus it's really fast.
RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
I suppose just for the record, any and all software is "easier/better" if you're on it day in and day out and know the nuances. I personally don't have any real problems with either AutoCAD or SE. There are definatly distinct differences and I find AutoCAD to be much more efficiant in the 2d enviroment but then again I'm still somewhat new to SE. Not trying to turn this into some sort of debate on AC v SE, just thought I would add my 2 cents.
Thanks again all for your help.

that's OK SE is optimized for 3D and not for 2D. So it gets all
its information including any constraints out of the 3D part.
Working only in 2D (draft) SE has to recheck/recalculate every
constraint you have placed either manually or automatically while
sketching. Plain Acad has no need for that, a line can be connected
or not it won't make any difference. To simulate this one can
switch off 'Maintain Relationships' and 2D will be a lot faster
then. When this option is on te more lines/elements you draw the
slower it gets ...

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
Found out it was a term he and his colleagues used in their system support and training team for a user error - the error occurred 24" from the screen
Most of my problems are Code 24's !!!
Back to your original problem, in the past I have noticed occasionally that Intellisketch can 'jump' off the indicated constraint just as you click the mouse - do you think this is happening in your case ??
I don't get this happening now that I use a really good mouse.

RE: Quickpick is CrAP...!?
I think this could be exactly what's happening. There's no other reason for it to happen. I hate to reference Acad again but I know that once in a while when there are a bunch of lines within some proximity to one another the snap will tend to jump and you can accidentally snap to the wrong line. The case here though seems that it may happen regardless of what's around it. I always feel like the lines aren't crisp enough and that even zooming way in doesn't give me the detail I'm used to seeing in Acad.
I'm starting to get used to the idea that when my cursor is over a line I want to connect to, to just wait a second after it picks and then select it.
By the way, I like the joke. These days its more like a code 12 with my eyes. When I used to do IT support I would tell my customers they had an I-D 10 T error and to make a note of it. Usually they didn't get it till after it was written in front of them. Later I would hear about it but I always got a laugh out of it.
