Elin Generator

Elin Generator

Elin Generator

(OP)
Hi,

Does anyone have an Elin (Austria) 9A5 Type generator at their plant? We have a 140MW generator but must carry out brushgear replacement every 6 weeks which has to be done with the machine on turning gear. We want to upgrade to allow us to do the brushgear change onload. Elin have proposed a system that is fitted to their 9A5 Type generators supplied to GE.

Would appreciate feedback as to whether this set up allows safe onload maintenance of the brushgear. Elin have been unable to give us reference sites as they do not know the end user.

Thanks
IrishAl

RE: Elin Generator

Why does the brush gear need wear out every 6weeks, that's seems to be a bit quick.  I assume that the abient conditions are not helping, have you looked into or tried a different brush grade?, or air filters?  You could convert to a bushless exciter but that will be expensive in comparison to brushes but should improve your machine's availability.

Cheers niallnz

You're right its quick. We have tried different grades of brushes and tried extending interval. We only change maximum of a quarter of the brushes at any one time so the new ones get a chance to bed in.
