ASME Sec. VIII Closure

ASME Sec. VIII Closure

ASME Sec. VIII Closure

(OP)
I have a question regarding a Pipeline Scraper Trap.  ASME B31.4 and DOT 195 require that the closure on the scraper trap be designed and fabricated per ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1.  My question is if this ASME closure is welded to a B31.4 pipeline, is the weld considered an ASME Sec. VIII weld or can we weld per ASME B31.4?

RE: ASME Sec. VIII Closure

My general thinking is ASME Sec VIII only covers the closure design, however the attachment would be treated like any other fitting and be governed by the vessel design code, in this case B31.4.
