ABAQUS Contact Simulation

ABAQUS Contact Simulation

ABAQUS Contact Simulation

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to simulate frictionless contact between two axisymmetric bodies in ABAQUS. The body on top is constrained to stay adhered to the body below it while a uniform load (acting upwards) is applied to it. Since the two interacting surfaces are frictionless, I need to restrict the degree of freedom in the axial direction while keeping the degrees of freedom in the tangential direction free. But the Tie Constraint in ABAQUS restricts all degrees of freedom, fusing the bodies together. Is there some way of doing this?

Thanks so much!

I forgot to add: I'm using ABAQUS CAE (v. 6.7-1). The master surface is on the lower body (which is comparatively quite stiff), while the slave surface is on the more compliant body (being loaded in tension) on top.

It is a little hard to visualize your model from your description. Can you draw a picture?

RE: ABAQUS Contact Simulation

Would something along the lines of this do it?

*CONTACT PAIR, TYPE = SURFACE TO SURFACE , INTERACTION=TIE
** Slave     Master
SLOWER    , SUPPER
*SURFACE INTERACTION , NAME = TIE
*SURFACE BEHAVIOR
*FRICTION
