Hole Table Multiple Letters same size hole

Hole Table Multiple Letters same size hole

OK, making 4 patterns of 6-32 holes.  (Luckily in this case they were blind holes.)  The piece part was a test fixture and we wanted those 4 patterns to have different letters, and we put lines to connect them on the face to more clearly define the groupings.  The groupings were to show how each unit mounted to the test fixture.

Since the holes were blind, we were able to grab the edges defining different levels of the hole and that gave us A1...An, B1...Bn, etc.  Since we had 4 hole patterns and a blind hole only has three edges we made an additional cut to define another edge to grab.  This is an insanely tedious task.  each edge needs to be grabbed individually (at least in 09 you can just keep clicking, in 08 you had to hold ctrl to select multiples).

Is there ANY way to just grab the face and the hole letters will increment based on the patterns and not just the sizes?  As it already does this by sizes.

Thank you for any ideas.

Oh, and another thing, if you use a through hole you are "scr-wed"  There aren't any extra edges to grab.

RE: Hole Table Multiple Letters same size hole

I assume you made the holes as 4 separate features, but the hole table shows them as one type of hole (since they are all the same).  Since the holes are blind, can you vary the depth for each pattern?  Make the holes in pattern #2 .000001 deeper than patern #1 for example.  Go at least one decimal place further than what will be displayed on your drawing.  When you insert your hole table, you can then select the face of the part instead of each individual hole.

1) this doesn't seem to work.  I loved the idea.
2) any ideas about a thru hole?

I'm using 2009 right now.  I'll try out 08.

OK, it worked if I was in 2 decimals/3 decimals and then I knocked the table down to two.  Will have to fool around to show 3, but have it recognize the holes as different.  When I made depths of .300, .3001 and .3002 they all came in as the same letter/size.  When made .300, .301, .302 they came in different and then I could reduce the depth tol to 2 places.

Any hints/ideas to have it initially recognize the 4 decimals?  I'll check document properties.

Yep in drawing document properties can change the length tol to 4 decimals, then it recognizes it.  Then can change the display to 3 decimals.  Just a few extra steps, but much easier than picking edges!

Thanks!
