Missing curves from step file

Missing curves from step file

Missing curves from step file

NX 5.0.5.3

When I export a step file from NX 5 it does not seem to retain the curve geometry even though I selected it. Anyone else have this issue?

RE: Missing curves from step file

Have a look at you export settings I think it is shipped set to Solids only but that you can set it to include other kinds of geometry by editing the settings. You will have to save a new settings file with your changes before you commence your next translation. The system defaults to a file in the installations directories so you'll need either to overwrite that file, (take a backup first by all means), or you can manually point the translator at an alternate file in another directory whenever you wish to include curves in your output.

RE: Missing curves from step file

YES!  Bit me a couple times!  Now I use a third party translator (already have it installed, it was the easiest fix) to make igs and parasolid files from the step.

I saw the option in the dialog to include curves, but it does not work.  I don't know if there are other options deeper in the config.

This is for importing files, I don't export step often enough to know how that behaves.

I did select solids and curves, but only got the solid to export. It works fine in NX3, is this a bug that was never adressed? I hope there is a fix. I use it everyday in NX3 and will be using it in NX5 when GM migrates.

RE: Missing curves from step file

I would create a test file with nothing but curves in it, save it, then export that file as STEP (make sure your settings are set to export curves....CHECK, don't assume), import STEP into new NX part and see if curves show up.
