CMP to RCP pipe connection

CMP to RCP pipe connection

CMP to RCP pipe connection

I am connecting RCP to CMP (15" or 18").  Besides pouring a concrete collar, is their another good way to make the connection and keep it soil tight / water tight?

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

Sorry, conc collar is the only way we do it.  have you checked with some companies?

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

A concrete junction box is also standard for change in alignment or pipe size/type.

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

Which pipe is existing? If it is the RCP, then you should use RCP. If the CMP is existing replace with RCP. That stuff will not last 40 years.

neither pipe is existing, they are both new

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

There are adaptors that you can drill through and bolt in to the RCP and connect to a CMP, but why do you want to mix pipe types if they are both new?

I hadn't planned to, but client is requesting it.  If you have information on a pre-fab connector, I would be interested in seeing it as I have not seen one yet.

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

I wish I had a sturdier answer for you CVG, but can only muster up this BS suggestion. Have you tried speaking with the trenchless people---maybe they have a sleeve, or a liner, or a coupling, etc? Nonetheless, I like LCrusier's idea, save my concern for the anode/battery action between the materials, potentially.

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

(OP)
fine, except I can't bolt it to concrete pipe and this detail calls for a concrete collar which I would like to avoid.  However, a spigot adapter might be useful along with a liberal application of bituminous mastic.

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

You can drill through the concrete pipe and bolt to a nut.

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

I guess I'd talk to the client about the problems of the connection and its longevity. The client hired you to design. Not draw what he designed.

RE: CMP to RCP pipe connection

Check with Fernco,
CMP length pipe can end with a series of 4 non spiralled ribs that are rerolled after pipe forming, ensure this is specified to get a good sealing surface.  note: CMP is not water tight.

A rubber coupling could connect to this effectively and connect to the RCP provided the sizes are correct.
