material requirment?

which kind of material should i use for a Methanol Tank. Steel or stainless steel.?

RE: material requirment?

juliomendez;
Is this for an above or below ground storage tank? In most cases, 304L stainless is used for piping and the tank itself to assure methanol purity and corrosion resistance.
My advice, is to review the information below and follow all necessary information information pertaining to safe handling and storage. Do your homework on this and review the sited codes and standards!

Thanks, but don`t you think that an ASTM 240 Type 304 is too  expensive for a sevice which doesn`t really need it,I mean Methanol is not a corrosive fluid!!!
Best Regards!

RE: material requirment?

there is often enough water in methanol that tank bottoms have issues.  I would suggest that you look at LDX2101.  You will use less metal because it is stronger.  The project should cost you less than in 304, and you won't have to worry about rusting of the CS.
