frame question 800 ft lbs of torque

frame question 800 ft lbs of torque

frame question 800 ft lbs of torque

(OP)
we have a motor  that is rated at 800 ft lbs (1080 NM) of torque. we are planning on putting this in a triumph tr4 for drag racing. What is the likelihood of the frame turning into a pretzel?

Luck is a difficult thing to verify and therefore should be tested often. - Me

RE: frame question 800 ft lbs of torque

Not very high, but of course it depends on your overall gear ratio including torque converter, axle ratio, and the stickiness of your tires rather than the engine torque.

Cheers

RE: frame question 800 ft lbs of torque

Okay.....I guess this is appropriate.  One of the welders I knew while I was working put a 350 Chebby in a TR-3...
Sorry guys, pretzel is as good a description as any.  Lots of things cracked in the stock frame...which, by the way looks like it could have been for a tractor...still lots of cracks.
From a stoplight, full throttle starts would pull the left front wheel every time.  It was absolutely coooooool.  What a  kick to drive...UNTIL YOU NEEDED TO TURN OR STOP!
