Inlet scour protection
Inlet scour protection
(OP)
I'm working on a project that has some fairly deep concrete inlets (14'+). The township engineer is requiring scour protection for the bottom and sides where incoming pipes will 'splash'. Anybody have experience with this or have any suggestions for protection?

Anyone else have any plausible ideas?

My experience is that "splashing" is normally not an issue with concrete inlets.
What is unusual about the configuration on the incoming sewers that precludes the use of the standard inlet box for your locale?

Connect shallower pipes downstream to a deeper (external or internal) "drop" manhole (similar to a sanitary drop manhole). The drop manhole is expensive but you may save money depending on how many inlets you can shallow up.
With the drop manhole you wont have the splashing and the townships maintenance guys will thank you for not having multiple 14'+ deep inlets --with built in waterfalls-- to have to clean out.
