What is the difference between "taken as unity" and "taken as 1"?

I have seen a lot of papers using "taken as unity" instead of "taken as 1", why?

Thanks.

RE: "taken as unityö and ôtaken as 1ö?

Language preference.

RE: "taken as unityö and ôtaken as 1ö?

unity is equivalent to 1

semantics

RE: "taken as unityö and ôtaken as 1ö?

Unity sounds more intellectual, we are engineers after all.

The Construction Specifications Institute once published MP-1-10, "Specifications Language", where they gave rules for spec writing.  For numerals, they suggested that numbers less than 13 should be written in words.  Examples they gave were 13, 16, 20, twelve, ten, nine, five, and one.
