Models on web pages

Models on web pages

(OP)
I'd like to have an interactive SW model on a webpage.  I need page visitors to have the ability to pan, rotate and zoom.  I'd like to use e-drawings.  I know I can save an e-drawing as html and that works fine except the page visitors have to download the viewer.  I'd prefer there was no download required.  Does anyone know of a way to do this with e-drawings or some other sofwtare?

RE: Models on web pages

Perhaps 3D PDF file?

Also--last I checked, eDrawings in HTML format required the non-compliant Explorer browser through the use of ActiveX controls.  Yuck.

RE: Models on web pages

I've never tried it but eDrawing files can be embedded into documents and web pages so that the viewer is not needed.

My email software automatically removes .EXE attachments from all incoming and outgoing emails. How can I send eDrawings file to recipients who have not installed the eDrawings Viewer?

To minimize the impact of the larger viewer size and email virus filters, a ZIP and HTML option has been added to the File...Send command. This option does not embed the eDrawings Viewer in an executable file; instead it automatically downloads it from the Internet and embeds the eDrawings Viewer in a standard web page. Since the HTML file only contains the eDrawings file data and a small amount of HTML code, this results in a smaller file size than the original .EXE option.

Quote:

How to can I embed an eDrawings file within a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation?

Save the eDrawings file as an HTML file and add an embedded web browser control to your PowerPoint presentation. You will need to enable macros in PowerPoint and set macro security to low or medium. (Tools->Macro->Security). In your eDrawings slide, you will need to add two items: the Microsoft Web Browser control and a button to activate it. Your button will typically set the URL of the web browser to the location of your eDrawings file.

Download example.

cheers

VRML, perhaps?

RE: Models on web pages

I've never used it, so I may be wrong, but isn't this what the 3D Instant Website add-in is for?

Thanks CBL.  I don't think these methods will work however.  They still require the viewer to interact with the model so if it's not loaded on your machine when you visit the html page you're automatically prompted to load it.

VRML may work in another application?

Never thought of 3d instant website.  I'll sheck this out :)

Thanks guys

RE: Models on web pages

If that doesn't work out, this idea is a bit of a hack.  You could create an animation and post that--either with an animation within SolidWorks exported to .AVI (or whatever) format or by using screen capture software (like Camtasia) and capturing the string of views that eDrawings will animate.
