Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

(OP)
Hi All, I'm looking for tutorials  for PSS/E 30. Any help please.

Thank you dpc, I have all the material supplied by Siemens but very large and contains thousands of pages. I'm looking for some few pages for kik start. If you know a text book based on PSS/E, it is fine I can buy it.

RE: Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

Actually, their introductory course (they hold it 2-3 times a year) is pretty helpful for getting started.  I can't remember what it's called, but it's something like "Introduction to PSS/E".

RE: Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

How pricey is this software now, for basic load flow?

RE: Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

Only experience I have is with time locks, but it was several thousand $ for 200 hours or so.

Dear Overvoltage, You have some experiance with PSS/E.
You can guide me can't you!

RE: Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

ROFL....I might be able to, but to be honest, most of what I know I gathered from their introductory class (I mentioned that above), and from digging through their manual when I needed to know something specific.

Thank you Overvoltage, These days I'm digging through there manual. By now I can do some simple stedy state load flow analysis.

Trust me load flow is the most difficult part. in the utility I work, not too many people know how to tune the power flow.I believe the other ones in North America are the same. power flow is the most important thing in the system study.

Thank you QBplanner. I agree with you. You talk about North America power system. I'm dealing with Sri Lanka  power system which is smaller with compare with yours.

RE: Beginner's guide to PSS/E 30

power flow study will fall into different zones of how to tune it. It dependes on the system you study, timing, etc.
If you are in the study of bulk transmission system, you will need to know how to tune inertia/governor/AGC power flow. If you are in the study of regional nework, you will need first hand information from control centre and field service people for all the system information and settings required by the PSS/E power flow.

Also you can tuned your power flow based on event timing, instant right after disturbance, post contringnecy and etc

You will have to understand the difference among full newton, fix slope, and decoupled one. understanding when to release switched shunt, transformer tap, inter-tie line control, DC, etc.

The bottom line is the pwoer flow you tune shall reflect the reality.

"voltage stability" by BPA Carson W. Taylor is a good reference book for you

Big thank for your valuable post. Actualy I'm studying bulk power transmission. I'm working in National power system control centre in Sri Lanka. I'll try to find the reference book that you suggested.
