High Angle, Non-plunging CV joints

High Angle, Non-plunging CV joints

High Angle, Non-plunging CV joints

(OP)
I'm trying to design an IFS for a mixed onroad/offroad vehicle, and am looking for specs/sources for a high-angle, hubside CV joints.  I'd prefer the Rzeppa style, rather than a double-cardan, but I haven't been able to find much through my searches; most applications seem to be for rear buggy or sandrails.  I've heard that for the type I'm looking for, something in the area of 45 degrees is attainable, but I haven't been able to locate anything concrete.  Does anyone have ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.

RE: High Angle, Non-plunging CV joints

Yes, just over 45 degrees is attainable, I think I've seen some NTNs at 51.

Presumably you need to talk to the supplier.

RE: High Angle, Non-plunging CV joints

A standard CV joint from GKN is good to 47 degrees. Their undercut free CV joints are good to 50 degrees.

And if you need really insane articulation angles use a double cardan. They aren't beautiful but they do work.

RE: High Angle, Non-plunging CV joints

I remember coming across these guys about 5 or 6 years ago but never really heard much else from them.

However they are still in business.
They don't seem to have much listed on their website but they are saying that they will have a 50 degree CV joint available soon.

They could probably give you more info than I can.
