If you have to write text over generated items in drafting, is there a way of removing the generated items directly behind the text, or alternatively a way of breaking/trimming generated items to achieve the same result.

hide or delete them, I prefer hide so you can see what has been done in noshow

ok, try to right click on the text box and choose properties, go to the text tab and set "blank background" to "area fill and geometry"

Hope it is what you are looking for

I'm on R18, don't have any machine with R16 so I can't check how to do it there, sorry.
