Longitudinal weld seams of adjoining sections (AWS D.1.1 Cl. 5.22.3)
Longitudinal weld seams of adjoining sections (AWS D.1.1 Cl. 5.22.3)
(OP)
Gents,
Can someone spare their precious time in giving a solution to my below question please?
1. As per AWS D1.1 Cl. 5.22.3.1 Longitudinal weld seams of adjoining sections shall be staggered a minimum of 90°. We have a typical problem at site in which we have only 40-50°. How to resolve the issue?
2. Two 45° Elbows were welded together to get a 90° Elbow. The Elbows are 30" butt welded type as per B16.9. Now the existing welds on the 45° elbows are meeting at same location. There is no reference in B31.3 on this scenario. How to resolve? I am attaching a sketch also with this.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Longitudinal weld seams of adjoining sections (AWS D.1.1 Cl. 5.22.3)
Longitudinal weld seams
of adjoining sections shall be staggered a minimum of
90°, unless closer spacing is agreed upon by the Owner
and fabricator."
You are fitting bound... take this to the owner and explain you have no choice in the way you are using the 45's only way around this is to buy a 30" 90°
if there are still some concerns have the welds X-rayed
