Hi Guys,
I'm seeking some info for a DC motor application as described below.
I have a machine which is towable to site but needs to be manipulated in place several times a week for periods varying from five minutes to twenty minutes. it weighs approximately 2.5T and sits on three 16" wheels with standard rubber tyres. My idea is to use two 12V Dc geared motors with rollers attached which can be pressed against the tyres so that an operator can move it by using a pendant type control, (Max speed about 3 km/hr, minimum 1 km/hr).
What I don't know is what sort of DC winding would best suit this application and what capacity, and would a MOSFET type speed controller suit this application.

One thing you have to make certain that the drives ere disengaged for towing otherwise the motor armature will fly apart with the overspeed.

I have already decided to enable the drive to be engaged and dissengaged, and I suppose I could get away without the speed control. I can get a picture the next time I'm on site but I dont see what it can tell you other than it is as described (like a three wheeled trailer with a engine driven stone cutter on it) the front wheel is severely castored so we should be able to steer it by engaging one or other of the drive systems (one for each rear wheel)
