Plastic/Steel Press Fit Interference

Plastic/Steel Press Fit Interference

(OP)
First post on these boards. It seems like there's a great group of people here.

I have an application where I'd like to press a molded Polypropylene GF30 piece onto a square steel shaft (about 3/8").

Does anyone know of any design rules of thumb for interference?

Thanks.

RE: Plastic/Steel Press Fit Interference

I don't have a number, but it will depend a lot on the radius at the corners of the square and the matching chamfers on the shaft and on the orientation of the glass fibre.

Regards
