Hi dear colleagues
what are ways for protection of stainless steel cladding against chloride ion saturated water?

RE: inhibition of stainless steel against chloride ion

Alloy with Mo at a concentration near 6 % by mass.

RE: inhibition of stainless steel against chloride ion

Not by chemically treating the water, only by using a better alloy.

RE: inhibition of stainless steel against chloride ion

We could hope you mean "insulation cladding", in which case the answer would be "paint"...

If you mean "internal vessel cladding", you're beat-

RE: inhibition of stainless steel against chloride ion

Well, raising the sulfate level will lessen the impact of the chlorides slightly. This isn't a practical inhibition method.

hi dear colleagues and thanks for your attentions
I mean "internal vessel cladding" and the water cut of petrolume flude has 10000 ppm chloride salts and temperature is between 60 and 100 C degree. we inject a water soluble inhibitor but the Fe content in outlet water from seperator is    high.

RE: inhibition of stainless steel against chloride ion

You could try www.sub-one.com - it's a pretty new process but if they can get it pinhole free you should have a reasonably long-lasting coating...

RE: inhibition of stainless steel against chloride ion

did u made an inspection on the vessel to see what is happening? you didn't tell what kind of SS is...if it's a 316 then i think you make a wrong material selection..
