Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

(OP)
My PC was recently wiped clean and a new install of XP SP3 was completed. I had saved my old "C" for my SW settings and had used that data as my "Save SW Settings" backup. I have since reinstalled SW08 SP4.0 and all is dandy except for a Hole Wizard error "cannot find database swbrowser.mdb". I have searched the forum and the support knowledge base and tried the suggested solutions (registering dll's, pointing the way for SW to the swbrowser.mdb, etc.) but I cannot get the Wizard to work.

Help would be appreciated! Suggestions?

RE: Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

I don't think you can really tell SW where to look for it.  I think you have to put it where SW is expecting it. Mine is located in C:\SolidWorks Data\lang\English.  Where is yours located?

C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities\lang\English

The Error Message comes up "Cannot find the Standards database C:\Program files\SolidWorks (3)\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities\lang\English

I've tried to redirect via the options menu and I've tried creating the SolidWorks (3) path and copying the data into that file. Niether worked.

RE: Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

Did you change SW versions?  The hole wizard database gets upgraded with each new release.  If you have a 2007 database and you're trying to use it with 2008 I think it won't work.

Thanks for the responses.

Nope. The last SW install was 08 SP4.0. I tried the updatebrowserdataresu.dll to be sure the database was current. No help there either.

RE: Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

I've had that happen a number of times.  All symptoms points to a glitch and not the file missing.  Normally if this happens I'll close everything out and reboot.  Usually is fine after that.  Might happen once every other week or so depending.  Still haven't tracked it down to a particular cause though.

That doesn't seem to be the case for me James. I have rebooted several times and the error happens every time. I have started to resign myself to re-installing SW but I was hoping to avoid that.

RE: Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

I had this happen years ago when installing 05 on a machine. I had forgotten to disable antivirus -> file system auto-protect. I know that antivirus is becoming less problematic on an install, but a complete reinstallation was the only way to fix this hole wizard problem (exact same) back in 05.

The only other thing I can think of, is that seeing how you have a new XP install, is that certain ODBC Data Source Drivers were left out on the install. Control panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources. Check out under User DSN to se if you have a MS Access Database driver installed. If not, you'll want to install the MDAC_TYP.exe from windows (google search for MDAC) . Note: If you are on x64, install it in windows 2000 compatability mode (right click on exe, properties, compatability), otherwise, it may put the dll's in the wrong place.

Thanks for the suggestions rfus. I did not have AV running at the time (I always shut it down despite it being listed at SW as testing OK for install).

The MS Access Database is there.

My options are dwindling....

RE: Hole Wizard error: cannot find swbrowser.mdb

Is the path set correctly under Tools -> Options -> System Options tab -> Hole Wizard / Toolbox?

You might also try searching the registry for SolidWorks (3) and see what comes up.

I've tried to reset the path several times. I've even copied to .dmb file to another location and tried setting the path to find it there. Same error message.

Not sure of what I am looking for in the registry.
