Problem meshing a screw

Problem meshing a screw

Problem meshing a screw

(OP)
Hi,

I am a newbie and I am trying to learn the basics. I am doing a FE study on miniscrews in bone. I drew a 3D model of a screw in Solidworks. The design includes a helical modified buttress thread which is necessary for the analysis. When I load the x_t file in abaqus I get the following message:

"The part contains imprecise geometry which is highlighted.
Partitioning and quad/hex meshing using the medial axis algorithm may fail on imprecise parts"

The highlighted part is the thread of the screw.

How can I fix this issue to be able to create an accurate mesh of the screw including the thread?

p.s. I attached my x_t file to this message

RE: Problem meshing a screw

Hi,
I had the same problem with an imported IGS file of a screw. In order to be able to mesh the part, you will have to use the Geometry Repair tools in Abaqus CAE Part module.
Most of the time you will have to remove or merge some edges in order to be able to mesh the component.
Meshing is a full time job!!!
