Excitation Transformer Sizing Calculation

Excitation Transformer Sizing Calculation

Excitation Transformer Sizing Calculation

(OP)
Hi,

I am power plant engineer, now I am designing 300MW coal fired power plant. The consultant request to submit calculation for sizing excitation transformer.

Can anyone advise me how to calculate excitation transformer size for static excitation system of turbo generator ?

Thank you,

Schwatzernov.

RE: Excitation Transformer Sizing Calculation

Talk to the generator manufacturer.

RE: Excitation Transformer Sizing Calculation

If you need a conservative ballpark figure use 4-5% of the set rating. This will cover you for most designs of turbo machines although I'm less certain about the big salient pole hydro machines. I suspect they may have greater requirements for the field excitation.

If you want an accurate answer then Edison has already given the best approach.

RE: Excitation Transformer Sizing Calculation

Hi.
What Edison saied.
excitation transformer it's part of static excitation system  and static excitation it's part of generator.
For my pinion it's one package.
Regards.
Slava
