A couple of bridges

A couple of bridges

(OP)
The first is the Williamsburg Bridge in NY (East River bridge from Brooklyn) under construction in 1902.

Just thought it was a very interesting pic.  (from www.shorpy.com)

The second:  Circa 1905. "Aerial bridge. Duluth, Minnesota." Suspended Car Transfer over the Duluth Ship Canal. The gondola could carry 60 tons of cargo across the 300-foot channel with minimal obstruction of the shipping lane. After modification for service as a vertical lift, the span became known as the Aerial Lift Bridge.

RE: A couple of bridges

Great pictures!

Thanks!

This page:

includes a colored photograph showing what I think are faux sidewheels on the gondola of the transfer bridge.

I wonder how it was actually propelled.

Amazing Structures built by men of steel.

RE: A couple of bridges

The Aerial Bridge looks a lot like Transporter Bridges (mostly in Europe), first built in 1893.

I understand that the Newport Transporter Bridge was recently closed and is unlikely to be refurbished for quite a while, if ever.
