Trimmed sheet preview

Trimmed sheet preview

Trimmed sheet preview

(OP)
I have two large complex sheet bodies that need to be trimmed to each other.  Just a small section, one sheet trimmed to three or four edges.

The feature works perfectly.  But it takes AGES.  In other dialogs, we have a checkbox to surpress the live preview, but its missing in the trimmed sheet dialog.

The problem is that the preview takes sometimes 30 seconds to update between each selection.  Creating this feature should take about 5 seconds start to finish, but with the preview delays it averages more than two minuets.

What can I do?  Should I submit an ER?

I have explored ways to select all edges in one step, and the only feasible solution is to create a join curve before using the trimmed sheet feature, but thats not so speedy either.

RE: Trimmed sheet preview

Sorry but are you using trim sheet or trim body? It may be that you're using trim body to create an edge to face trimming condition and since the intersection is slight the system is spinning its wheels struggling to resolve it. If this sounds right to you then when trimming sheets to edges use trim sheet instead. Because trim sheets uses a projection method it defines the required geometry much quicker and should be easier to use.

Also just as an aside upgrade to a later version of NX-5 when you can you seem to be on an early release whereas it has latterly become more stable. You may indeed have a spotted something already addressed in which case if you think about it at best an ER might be incorporated in NX-7 or late NX-6 and a PR fix if serious might find its way into a maintenance release, so you'd have to upgrade either way to benefit.

Using trimmed sheet, not body.

The projection seems to be the cause of the long delay.

In divide faces, we have an option 'do not project curves that lie in faces' which speeds things up.  This is also unavailable in trimmed sheet.

I do you have the projection vector set to normal to face? If it is accidentally set to an oblique angle then it will take a long time to find create the projected geometry.

If all else fails post an example I'm having no trouble using these tools in NX-5 so it is difficult to imagine what else would be affecting your ability to have it work quickly and easily unless the geometry has a particular quirk that may be causing you problems.
