ACI Eq.(2-5) typo?

ACI Eq.(2-5) typo?

ACI Eq.(2-5) typo?

(OP)
Hi there,

First time to post here.

In ACI 530-05, teh allowable shear Eq.(2-5) says:

Bv = 350*(f'm*Ab)^(1/4)

I think the Ab should be Ap which is the projectd area for masonry rather than bolt area.

It does not make sense to use f'm to multiply Ab.

What do ya'll think?

RE: ACI Eq.(2-5) typo?

The equation is correct.  If you use the old Table 21-F in the 97 UBC and extract a value for 3/4" diameter bolt you read 1780 lbs with f'm = 1500 psi.  By using the equation in ACI 530, you get 1776 pounds.  I am sure that Equation 2-5 is empirical so agree with older published UBC tables for bolt shear.
