CATIA V5 variable Fillet

CATIA V5 variable Fillet

CATIA V5 variable Fillet

(OP)
Hi All,

When creating a variable fillet in CATIA V5 I am receiving the following error:

You cannot create variable radius fillets on closed edges.  Use only 3D points.  Deselect  the default vertex or plane.

has anyone seen this before? I can create a normal fillet just not a variable why is this?

Thanks

RE: CATIA V5 variable Fillet

Sounds like you have a "closed edge", it's going all the way around and the starting and ending vertex coincide so you cannot have different values on the same vertex, cicle as an example but even splines occasionally. Add some points on the edge and use them instead.

I tried that it still fails.  The only thing I can get to work is to break up the sketch that I used to create the pocket so that it creates multiple edges on the inside of the pocket. This is not my preferred method though because editing these breaks its not as easy as adjusting a point drawn on an edge.  I will try some other options as well let me know if you have any other ideas.

RE: CATIA V5 variable Fillet

Try to only use 3D points when defining the variable fillet, no vertexes, if I remember correctly you can't mix them when the edge is closed

What I had to do was put a break in the sketch because it was a closed circle this broke the solid edge and allowed me to put points where ever I wanted.  Thanks for the responses.
