Steel wheel with pattern

Steel wheel with pattern

(OP)
Hi

I am a new user of SolidWorks,I am trying to draw a steel wheel with a fixed pattern across the surface of the steel wheel.(see attached parts)

I have no problem with drawing the main wheel, but I trouble making the pattern.

Currently Im just thinking about using straight pattern which for example is 20 mm wide and 15 mm high. typcall 6 to 8 patterns on each wheel.

Anyone who have a simple way to do this?

Do I have to draw the wheel as one part and the patterns as anoter part and then assembly?

How do I assembly these two parts, and is it possible to assembly one pattern to the wheel and then copy it around?

Cheers

What is the design intent? A single piece wheel or a multipart wheel assembly?  Model it like the real world equivalent.

Assuming it is a single piece design I would circular pattern the "spoke" feature.

Have you done the Help>Tutorials at the minimum or had any instruction.  I would put down your current project for now and go through the tutorials.

As I said, I am a brand new user. Just playing around in the program.

I will do the tutorials, and see if it helps.

Thanks for your reply,

As you go through the tutorials be sure to fully constrain every sketch. (especially as a beginner)  I noticed in the file you attached there was a (-) sign in the history browser and on editing the sketch notice that one line is blue rather than black.  You want to get in the practice of always fully constraining your sketches so that as changes are made the behavior is as expected.

RE: Steel wheel with pattern

Create the sketch of the blank rim profile including the web and revolve the part.

Now you can go to a perpendicular plane, sketch the lug holes (assuming this is what you need) create these as a revolved cut. Make sure to mate the centerline of the hole at your desired spacing. Now do a circular pattern with the required instances or number of holes.

This should give you what you wish with the ability to make changes as required with just a small amount of work.

You could even roll some of these values into equations or a design table.

Thank you for your reply.

I will do my best. Still learning.
