hot tap welding procedures

hot tap welding procedures

(OP)
Does anyone know if a hot tap requires its own welding procedure. I.e does a mockup need to be made, and does it need to pass the ASME IX bend tests.

Or does a qualified welding procedure for the material being welded suffice (i.e a normal fabrication WPS)

RE: hot tap welding procedures

Consult API RP 2201, API 1104, and W A Bruce, A Simple Approach To Hot Tap Welding, AWS Welding Journal, 2007

RE: hot tap welding procedures

rmx..

"Hot tapping" is an activity that is commonly contracted to experienced contractors who have thier own approved welding proceedures.

Unlike most of the goofy ASME code rules and "Nonmandatory Appendices", the API RP 2201 recommended practice is a complete document that addresses this question.
