Hydraulic power in the field

Hydraulic power in the field

Hydraulic power in the field

(OP)
any tips on this please.

We have a petrol engine driven hydraulic pump delivering 120 litres per minute @ 1500 psi.

Would it be possible to run a hydraulic motor piped up to this, which in turn would run another pump delivering say 5 litres per minute @ 10,000 psi.

How would we figure out the motor ratings if this were possible.

We have a requirement to run 2 systems independently in the field, one powering a winch & then a hydraulic torque wrench. Unfortunately the winch is low pressure & high flow & the wrench is totally opposite. If we can run such a combination it means we can utilise the one power unit & thus save on weight.

RE: Hydraulic power in the field

Yes you can.

Or you can use a hydraulic intensifier.  Here is an example: http://www.offshore-technology.com/contractors/rovs/minibooster/

Most intensifiers do not require the flow rate you have avaiable.  You can use a flow control to reduce the flow rate to the intensifier.

Patricia, this is a fluid power problem, not an electric motor control problem.

Look for a 10:1 pressure boost to use 1000psi to generate 10 000psi.

Thanks Ted, the intensifier looks like the way to go, I'll have to get some prices together before we decide, you know how it is with exotic hydraulic kit, can be expensive.
