HecRas - Basin modeling

HecRas - Basin modeling

HecRas - Basin modeling

(OP)
Could or how would Hec-Ras be used to model a detention basin?  Is that an appropriate use of the model?  I have a detention basin that collects in excess of 50 ac and therefore regulated via flood hazard rules.  I had always thought Hec-Rac was better suited for flow through open ended sections......and not really suited for pond routing.  However, it seems that the review process has generated the need to review the basin having been modeled via Hec-Ras.

RE: HecRas - Basin modeling

HEC-RAS is not well suited to modeling detention basins. If you must use it you will find this out for yourself but try to use something like HydroCad instead. You'll find it a lot easier.

good luck

RE: HecRas - Basin modeling

If you're looking for free software to model a basin, use WinTR-55.

RE: HecRas - Basin modeling

if you are not using SCS methodology, try HEC-1 which is also free
