Part Marking Height
Part Marking Height
(OP)
I have a small part that I need to mark with an ID number. I'd like for the marking to similiar to indelible black ink.
Can someone provide help with these questions?
1. What is the smallest height that can generally be done for this. Is .0625" to small?
2. Any suggestions for the note that will indicate what type of marking should be used? I have "Mark part in approximate location" but would like to specify the process to be used.
Thanks.

RE: Part Marking Height
INDELIBLY MARK WITH PART NUMBER IN LOCATION SHOWN. MARKING SHALL BE XXXX FONT .06 HIGH CHARACTERS.
If you dont' care what font you could use some other wording so long as it's clear you want 'type' font not hand written.
In castings they'll call up 'RUBBER STAMP' for this type of thing I believe.
.06 (don't bother with .0025 - it's marking not precision machining) is on the small side, you may want to check with your vendor.
