4160V Motor Quick Connection

4160V Motor Quick Connection

4160V Motor Quick Connection

(OP)
We need to change rotation on a 4160V, 500hp (50 Amp) motor every few months.

Because of NFPA70e rules, we can no longer do it in the MCC bucket (can't shut off the line side of the switch).

The motor is fed with an armored cable.  We can change the motor connection box to about any size we want.

Currently the motor is connected at the motor with splice kits.  These are too cumbersome to do every few months.

I'm looking for a recommendation on some type of elbow or other connection that I can put in the connection box to allow us to switch two phases every few months.

Thanks!

RE: 4160V Motor Quick Connection

Anything rated to switch under load will be very big and very expensive. A double throw oil switch comes to mind.

But if you just want a plug and a couple of receptacles so that you plug in to one or the other and the leads are crossed in the connection box, you can contact these folks. They make MV plugs and receptacles for the mining industry. Great bunch of (wild) Canadians eh? Tell them what you want built and they will build it for you.

RE: 4160V Motor Quick Connection

Jraef's second idea is a good one. Here's another manufacturer to look at: www.cavotec.com . Cavtotec's build quality is very good, which it needs to be given the mining and dockside locations where their products tend to be used.
