Ventilation for locker rooms, 62.1-2007, BOCA

Hi Folks,

Wondering if anyone has an old copy of the BOCA 1987 mechanical code.  If so, I was wondering what it states as the min ventilation rate for locker rooms/areas.  I'm looking at an old basis of design where it is stated that the rate is 35 cfm per person per the 1987 Code.  I have the 1993 BOCA version which says 0.5 cfm/ft2.

Also wondering if anyone has an opinion to what folks  typically use (in ASHRAE 62.1-2007) for the People outdoor rate (Rp) and Area outdoor rate (Ra) for a locker room? Or do folks normally just skip to section 6.4 and use the 0.5 cfm/ft2 for exhaust.

For Part 1 anyways, BOCA 87 does state 35 cfm per person in a locker room, and allows no more than 85% of the ventilating air to be recirculated.

Chas - Thanks for the reply.  Very interesting that BOCA 87 says no more than 85% can be recirc'd.  The BOD that I have says none shall be recirc'd. Just another mistake, I find them all the time!
Thanks again.

No recirculation is not necessarily a mistake. A lot of these spaces can meet ventilation requirements with draw-through, depending on heat load, without fan coils or FPT boxes... The 85% is a max allowable, not a min requirement...
